Prayer wheels are devices for spreading spiritual blessings and well being. Inside of wheel contains rolls of thin paper printed with thousands of mantra (prayer) Om Mani Padme Hum, in an ancient Sanskrit script or in Tibetan script. They are mounted on an axle in a protective container and spun round and round. Additionally, larger decorative versions of the syllables of the mantra are also carved on the outside cover of the wheel. Tibetan Buddhists believe that chanting om mani Padme loud or silently invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the symbol of compassion. According to the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition based on the lineage texts regarding prayer wheel, spinning such a wheel will have much the same meritorious effect as orally reciting the prayers.
