She says that "impulse" has always been like a map for her, presenting the future she seeks, and she aimed for a high-dimensional fusion of the energy and warmth of the band's sound with solid, progressive tracks.In addition to members of the previous album's production team, including Musicman Ty, who worked on "I Love When," the album also includes indie soul king Eric Roberson, Lorenzo Johnson (Ledisi and Maysa), Daniel Crawford (keyboardist for Chris Dave & The Drumhedz), and Vidal Davis, a Grammy-winning producer who has worked with Ne-Yo and Usher, among others. The tracks were recorded with a full band at The Studio, a legendary studio in Philadelphia, by a production team that included such stellar names as indie soul king Eric Roberson, Daniel Crawford (keyboardist for Ledisi and Maysa), and Vidal Davis, a Grammy-winning producer from A Touch of Jazz who has worked with Ne-Yo and Usher, among others. The studio work was done by a full band at the legendary The Studio in Philadelphia. The studio work was directed by Khari Mateen (involved with Jill Scott and The Roots), who worked closely with Mateen on the previous album, and the sound quality is outstanding.The sweet track "Got Me" creates an urban atmosphere, "Liberation" was produced by Eric Roberson and features a string arrangement by Larry Gold, and "All in Me, All in You" is a funky number with a strong sense of passion. Nao Yoshioka's voice, which he has honed over the years, shines through on songs created in accordance with his "impulses".
