Master musician Idil Billet takes on the challenge of the "Diabelli Variations". Although Billette has expressed his deep love for Beethoven and has recorded all of his concertos and sonatas, this is his first recording of the "Diabelli Variations". Billette maintains tension and variety to the very end, from the various variations in which Beethoven's compositional techniques of his later years were pursued to the extreme, to the magnificent fugue placed in the 32nd variation, and the final, light-hearted minuet. The reverberant sound of the pedals is also worth listening to, and the performance of the "32 Variations" at Alice Tully Hall in 1975 was highly praised by the New York Times. Naxos Japan
