Place all wooden playing pieces face down on the table and mix them up. Then close your eyes, pick up one of the pieces, turn it over and carefully feel its surface. Try to remember what you felt and set the piece aside. Now, with your eyes closed, feel for the square on the game board with the same surface. Once you have chosen a square, place your playing piece on that spot on the game board. Now open your eyes! Do the surfaces match? If so, you may keep the playing piece. If not, you must return the playing piece, everything is mixed again, and it's the next player's turn.
